Journalists get tips on navigating the legal system

The State Bar of Michigan Law and the Media Committee and the Society of Professional Journalists, Detroit, are joining forces to present a program this month entitled “Covering the courts:  What Detroit’s top legal minds think.”

The program will consist of two panel discussions moderated by Michigan Radio Political Commentator and Wayne State University Professor Jack Lessenberry featuring prominent Michigan attorneys and judges.

The first panel will feature U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan Barbara McQuade and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.  The discussion will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Crain’s Detroit, 1155 Gratiot Ave.

The second panel will feature the U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds and Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Robert Columbo.

The discussion will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at the offices of Butzel Long, 150 W. Jefferson Ave., Suite 100, in Detroit.

The discussions will be aimed at helping journalists better navigate the legal system.

The prominent attorneys and judges will share their opinions of how reporters and news outlets can improve the quality of their reporting and build a better rapport with members of the legal profession.

The panel discussions are free to attend, but registration is requested.
