Fred Mester (center), a retired Oakland County Circuit Court judge and a former Army captain, served as the keynote speaker at a recent fund-raiser in Warren to benefit the Vets Returning Home organization. Mester, pictured with retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Robert Farnette (left) and retired U.S. Marine Capt. Mike Schloff, paid a special tribute to our nation’s vets, saluting them for their service and sacrifices in defense of “freedom and liberty.” The current ombudsman for the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan, Mester also praised Vets Returning Home, a nonprofit organization based in Roseville that furnishes shelter and support for “veterans in crisis.” The emcee at the event was Eli Zaret, longtime television and radio personality in Detroit.
