SBM Religious Liberty Law Section schedules annual meeting

The State Bar of Michigan’s Religious Liberty Law Section will host its annual meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. online via Zoom.

The keynote speaker will be Eric Treene, special counsel for Religious Discrimination, U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division.

Treene oversees the Civil Rights Division’s religious discrimination and religious liberty efforts, including laws protecting religious rights in education, employment, housing, the construction of places of worship, the rights of institutionalized persons, and the prosecution of religious hate crimes and attacks on places of worship.

Other meeting topics include

• Proposed changes to Michigan’s civil rights law and Judicial Canon that would impact religious liberty

• Other current issues impacting religious liberty

• Selection of council members

• Other business as necessary (minutes, etc.)

There is no cost to attend the meeting.
